One of the hardest things to do is change.

Change requires focus and intention. It calls you to turn away from what has become comfortable and go to places that can be uncomfortable.

I was speaking with a beautiful young lady whom I have watched grow up. She has been through so much in her life, so much trauma, most of which came as a result of her choices, but where she is today is far from where she was, and despite her choice, she is successful. As we were talking, she kept talking about how stressed she is, and the Holy Spirit began to pour out wisdom… Her word was Change!

Speak Life

Just like the world tells us, you are what you eat! The Holy Spirit tells us you are what you speak! But in order to change what you are, you have to change what you speak, and change the speakers in your life, especially if they are not speaking life. You have to change what you think about yourself, you have to change your approach… It’s possible, but it takes determination and constant practice.

How Do We Change?

Change begins with our choices, the free will The Most High gives us. When we are young, growing up under our parents’ rule, we still have choices and consequences, LOL. But life is the very same way, choices and consequences. How do you change your choices when you have lived in a pattern of abuse? How do you know what the right choices are? How do we change the thinking that comes from watching dysfunction?

Sometimes, without even knowing, we choose what’s comfortable because that’s all we know, but the Bible tells us to “Renew our Minds” (Romans 12:2, KJV), which means to change what we think about ourselves, capabilities, and our surroundings.

Change Takes Work

True change is a process that is always completing you, never complete it because you are always growing and experiencing, you are always going to be faced with the comfortable and uncomfortable. Change can seem foreign, but we change every day, whether we realize it or not. We can direct our change or let change happen.

In my case, I have to choose every day to be present and healthy in my marriage. Neither my husband nor I saw an example of marriage or healthy adult relationships; we both grew up in single-parent homes,  with strong, broken women surrounded by other strong, broken women. Strong broken that sounds like an oxymoron and is… Because both our parents found strength in their faith in Christ. Which allowed us to come to understand what God says about change!

Change doesn’t come naturally; it takes work. Hard work. Constant thought. It is tiring and sometimes discouraging because we don’t always see the fruit of our change the way we want in the time we want.

Change is Possible with Christ!

What does that mean? It begins with simple steps like how you speak to yourself and what you say about yourself, to you, and others. If you think and say you are stressed, then you will be. If you say you are lonely, then you will be, and you will focus on who’s there and who’s not. But if you say that you are blessed, then you will focus on what The Most High has done for you, and if you repeat the promise from God through Christ, which tells us

“I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5).

But in order to get any of the promises in God’s word, you MUST commit to change and be actively working through it. You can’t expect anything new if you don’t try something new.

The Bible tells us we have the power of life and death in our tongues (Proverbs 18:21, KJV)! Use that power for YOUR good, that is what it is there for! The Most High wants us to use ALL the tools He has given us through Christ. He knows how hard this life can be and is without Him! He watches us and sees, AND He sent His Son Christ who went through all that we will ever go through even unto death!

The Most High thinks so highly of you and wants you to do the same! Cast all your cares upon Him, for He careth for you (1 Peter 5:7, KJV)

I will end with that. I pray you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing!

May The Most High give you the strength to change for the better and the courage to keep changing into what He called you to BE!!
